The currency in Steel Storm is referred to as TCs. For many years after the Great Cataclysm, gold, in one form or another, continued to be used in trade - but as technology advanced and commerce picked up, gold became an unwieldy thing to use. It was around this point where the Technomancers stepped in, offering to exchange gold for "credits," which were guaranteed to be converted back into gold by any Technomancer outpost if so desired (in fact, some believed that the credits were actually still composed of gold in some form, just recombined into a lighter form factor. Those people, of course, would have been wrong, but the rumors circulated for many years, even to the current day).

TCs, in Steel Storm, are not equivalent to the Technocredits used on the forums - although they can be exchanged. Technocredits fall into the realm of foreign currency, which is not usually accepted by most people, but can be exchanged for TCs by the two major Technomancer exchange centers, located in Forefront and Seahaven (other outposts only change credits for gold). The exchange rate is normally 3 TCs for every Technocredit exchanged, although this amount has been known to fluctuate.
