Empirix
After the Great Cataclysm, there reamined a huge number of human casualties - and someplace had to be found to bury them. As a result, a large series of graveyards were dug to the northwest of Forefront, and the dead from the Cataclysm were buried there. A series of shrines were erected in their honor, followed by churches and other clerical sites, and a small town developed around the site. The town was dubbed Mourning, out of respect to the dead - and the somber lifestyle led by its inhabitants. The town actually became very robust... until, due to the meddling of certain dark forces, the dead began coming to life in droves, clawing themselves out of their shallow graves and terrorizing the town. Finally, an army of Paladins, along with a massive solar-based device developed by the Technomancers, managed to drive the undead back to the cemetary, which they ringed with powerful forcefields and strong spiritual and clerical wards. Finally, as a means of resolving the situation, the paladins (who controlled the town at the time) renamed the city to Empirix, in the hope that the name would serve as an additional ward to hold the restless undead at bay.
Today, Empirix is still not as big as either Seahaven or Forefront, but has, despite the best efforts of the paladins that still hold sway in the city, reasserted itself as a haven for both the development of alchemy and, as some euphemistically refer to them, the "dark arts." In fact, both the light and dark are represented here, as the town is somewhat polarized - split between orders of paladins and clerics on the east end, and orders of necromancers and berserkers on the west. While these two "factions" have rarely come to blows, on the one occasion that they did, the entire town had to be rebuilt. In fact, some say that attack weakened the wards put around the new graveyard, and some claim to have witnessed undead walking the streets of Empirix's west end once again...
